Philosophy

The curriculum of the ECC has expanded as well to include cooking, science, nature, art, music, and movement. The curriculum has been designed to provide a Jewish atmosphere throughout the school. The children are given a sense of Jewish identification through the weekly observance of Shabbat, the celebration of Jewish holidays, exposure to Jewish values and the introduction of Hebrew through songs and games. Through regular Kabbalat Shabbat services in their classrooms, the children gain a familiarity with the synagogue environment.

The goals and philosophy of the ECC enable the school to grow with and serve the needs of the Ohr Kodesh community. To accomplish this goal, we provide learning experiences designed to nurture the four major areas of development.

SOCIAL: To help children feel comfortable at school, make friends and feel part of the classroom community.

EMOTIONAL: To help children develop self-confidence, independence, self-control and a sense of responsibility and empathy towards others.

COGNITIVE: To help children become confident learners.

PHYSICAL: To help children develop physical coordination.

Jewish values and teachings are integrated throughout the curriculum to expose children to the spiritual and humanistic aspects of our culture and religion. These, too, are introduced through developmentally appropriate activities at each age level.
